Veneers Q & A

What is a dental veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or composite material that fits over the front of your tooth. Your dentist at Luxury Dental, PC uses custom-designed veneers to improve the look of teeth that are:

  • Gapped
  • Crooked
  • Crowded
  • Short
  • Misshapen
  • Discolored or stained
  • Uneven or misaligned
  • Cracked or chipped

You can get just one veneer to fix a single tooth or as many as you need. Veneers can match the shade of your other teeth or give you a whiter smile that looks natural and flatters your skin tone.

How do I get veneers?

If you’re a good candidate for veneers, your dentist at Luxury Dental, PC prepares your teeth by sanding away some of the enamel, a process known as etching. That will allow space for the veneers and facilitate a strong bond when they’re cemented in place.

Your dentist takes molds or 3D images of your teeth and sends them to a lab. They fit you with temporary veneers to protect your etched teeth while your custom-made veneers are created.

In a couple of weeks when your veneers are ready, your dentist at Luxury Dental, PC removes the temporary veneers and fits you with your final veneers. They make sure the fit is perfect and then cement them in place.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers can last for 10-15 years or even longer if you maintain good oral health. Although veneers are stain-resistant, they don’t protect your teeth from cavities.

You still need to brush your teeth twice daily, floss daily, and visit Luxury Dental, PC at least twice a year for an exam and professional cleaning.
